About Us

lOGOThe TAMIL MANRAM, is a South Indian socio-cultural organization, a Registered body with the chandigarh Administration. Considering its aims and objectives, a prime piece of land measuring 20,000 sq ft was allotted to conduct its activities in Sector 30, Chandigarh in the year 1973. There are about 50,000 Tamil population in Chandigarh. The mandram building will have a basement with Medical Foundation, a Ground floor with large auditorium and a 1st Floor for facilities of learning music, dance and south indian languages etc as per plan

Though Mandram is not having building it continued its activities from the residences of its members. It organised musical festivals, Tamil New Year, Pongal celebrations and other philanthropic activities like free health check-up, camps for needy people, distribution of woolens to poor etc. Even with limited fund resources to show the solidarity and unity, Tamil Mandram extended its helping hand to the tsunami affected victims at the time of natural disaster in Tamilnadu.

Although mandram has in its fold of a large number of floating population of Government and private sector officials besides other workers engaged in permanent and pemporary jobs in the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, Public Works and other departments, it could not raise sufficient funds to construct the proposed building on the site.

With the existing available money and with the help of donations received from well-wishers of the City, we had completed partial construction of the building consisting of four rooms, toilets, compound wall & gate. The building has been named as “BHARATHI BHAVAN”.

It is heartening to poing out that considering the lofty aims of the Organisation, the local Hon’ble Member of Parliament and Minister of States Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal.on our fervent appeal sanctioned an amount of Rs.2 lacs out of MP LADs Funds for the construction of one room meant for the computer education for the under-privileged children living in slum areas. This act of benevolence and esture of goodwill by the local M.P has been widely appreciated by all.

The problem of the Mandram was further compounded when the Chandigarh Administration imposed a penalty of Rs.25.35 lacs towards non-construction of the building within the stiputed period and other lease rent arrears etc. And failed to pay may result in land consumption by the administration. This causes concern and anxiety for all of us. Being a philanthropic, cultural and social organisation, it would be very difficult to generate such a huge sum especially when the Mandram do not have a corpus of its own and depend upon the donations for its activities.

The Mandram gpt relief when Honorable Governor of Tamil Nadu Shri Surjit Singh Barnala Ji intervened and used his Good Office and requested the UT Administration to waive of additional penalty imposed on Mandram which is imposed after the partial construction of our Mandram building By this we got relief of 17 lacs. Administration also instructed us, that the remaining amount of 8.35 lacs has to be paid the earliest possible.

Our earnest appeal to you all come forward and help us this task which we have taken in hand is indeed noble and is difinitely taking shape as visualised by our predecessors, some 30 years back but the resource crunch is the biggest impediment at this crucial juncture especially when we are to make some committed payments to Chandigarh Administration.

With the sole objective of ensuring ownership of the Mandram and completing the full construction,we earnestly seek your benevolence by way of donations which could be sent in the name of “TAMIL MANDRAM CHANDIGARH“. The donations are eligible for tax relief under section 80G of IT Act of 1961. No amount is too small to help this noble cause. your cooperation at this juncture will undoubtedly give a fillip to the activities of the Mandram besides being a source of moral and financial support.
